29/07/10 Unwanted Mare Proves Influential
IN RECENT weeks one of the most successful sires has been the Arrowfield stud based Not a Single Doubt, a brilliant son of Redoute’s Choice whose second crop 2-year-old Squamosa suggested a big future in the spring when he charged home to win by three lengths at Randwick on Saturday.
He has now won both his outings.

(pictured) success as a sire is not surprising as he has the right breeding and ability, but he is out of a daughter of Easy Date, another example of the raffle of breeding and racing.
After being sold at Scone mare sales in foal to Lunchtime for $5,000 by her initial owners, Bob Logan and Bob Lapointe, because they were told she wasn’t worth keeping, Easy Date went on to produce eleven winners, headed by the Lunchtime foal, a top racehorse, sire of winners and of dams of winners called Snippets.
His Sydney winning Rory’s Jester half-sister Singles Bar has added to the impressive record of Easy Date as a matriarch by including among her offspring the dam of Zizou, a first class 2-year-old by the Mr Prospector Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus standing at Stuart Ramsey’s top notch stud Turangga Farm in the Segenhoe Valley near Scone.
In 2007 Zizou and a close relation, the Flying Spur filly Forensics, provided Easy Date with a sensational triumph for a family when they fought out the finish of the Golden Slipper. Forensics won by a head.
Zizou (pictured) at two also won the Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington (by 1.5 lengths on debut) and was runner up in the Blue Diamond Stakes, Blue Diamond Prelude and the Todman Slipper Stakes.
Juveniles with this type of achievement and good opportunity generally make good sires, ones capable of supplying Slipper and Blue Diamond candidates.
Zizou, 2010 fee $11,000, including GST, certainly has the opportunity. He has over fifty foals in his first crop, yearlings on August 1, and they include progeny of mares by Snippets (six) and his sons Picnicker, Pins and Snowland.
Among the other mares are daughters of Flying Spur (three), Zabeel, Octagonal, Bletchingly, Royal Academy, Scenic, Generous, Last Tycoon, Zeditave, Lion Hunter, Jeune, Cape Cross, Perugino, Canny Lad, More Than Ready and Success Express.The mating of Zizou with mares by Flying Spur produces offspring with pedigrees very similar to that of Forensics.
