Description

VITAL EQUINE is by one of the finest horses ever to stand at stud in Western Australia in DANETIME. The ill-fated son of Danehill only stood 3 seasons in Western Australia, but it was long enough to show the breeding world the legacy he left behind. DANETIME'S deeds in Australia saw him achieve what few other stallions normally achieve in a lifetime.

DANETIME has sired Group 1 winners in both hemispheres, but it was the brilliant Group 1 winning 3 year old in MEGATIC, which made WA breeders ears prick up. Megatic upstaged his older rivals in the Kingston Town Classic, comprehensively beating the Railway Stakes winner El Presidente and 2009 Perth Cup winner Guyno. DANETIME'S  progeny also includes Roman Time, the winner of  Western Australia's most prestigious 2 year old race in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate, and Dark Target the outstanding sprinter who won the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes. Danetime has sired a host of other outstanding group and listed winning horses in his brief period at stud.

As the highest rated two year old son of Danetime to stand anywhere in the world, Vital Equine (timeform rating of 113) will be able to continue the legacy . Unbeaten in his first three starts as a 2 year old between 1200m and 1400m, it was his "all the way" win in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes over 1400m at York, United Kingdom, in course record time, that will head his highlight reel. It was made more impressive as he defeated the dual Guineas (Classic) winner COCKNEY REBEL. It was a gutsy win as he fought off all challengers, even seeing him being headed in the straight, but like a true champion, he showed immense courage to fight back to be victorious. From that race onwards he competed at Group 1 level.
He then travelled across the English Channel to take on a high class field of 2 year olds in the Group 1 Longchamp Grand Criterium in France, beaten into third by subsequent mulitiple Group 1 winner and Coolmore shuttle stallion HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR.
As a 3 year old, he nearly made it a barrier to post win with an amazing 2nd. In a field of 24, over the mile in the 2000 Guineas, he narrowly went down to the multiple Group 1 winner COCKNEY REBEL.  It was rated the fastest edition (timeform rating of 121 as a 3 year old) of the race in over 10 years.
VITAL EQUINE’S female line also is full of Black type performers. Being out of a SELKIRK mare, she descends from the champion racemare and producer BEHERA.
We will never get to really appreciate, to the full extent, what Danetime did for the Western Australian stallion scene, but Vital Equine is up to that challenge of his Father's unfinished business.
